Hi folks,

if I paddle on dutch waters: Is there a need for any boat registration? I did read this somewhere, but I don't know if it's really serious for kayaks. Officially yes, but what's about the real life? Think about rivers like Maas, Waal and so on.
And perhaps somebody knows it for Belgium as well: I know that there's a need for registrated boat on the big, "shipable" rivers. But on these I already paddeld nobody worried abou that (eg the Semois or the middel Ourthe).
In Germany you only need a Name for the boat in 10cm big letters on both sides of the boat. It's for the "water-police" so that they can shout the boat's name to call you.
If you don't have a name on the boat (on rivers like Rhine an Ruhr) and the police catches you, you usally have to pay about 50 Euro.

Thanx for your attention.

No, there is no registration needed in the Netherlands, neither a name on the the boat. You do not need papers on board or anything (only a personal ID).

The rule in Belgium is when you are foreign your boat is supposed to be registrated in the country where you live, when it's registrated you don't have to register your boat again. I don't know the rules for the Netherlands (i'm belgian).

In the Netherlands the rule is that all boats need a form of registration.

for your kajak/canoe your name, adres and maybey phonenumber will do. Just use a waterresistant sticker and place is somewhere readable. Mine is inside the dayhatch and consists of my name, zipcode and housenumber. This is for the police if they find your boat without a paddler they can contact the adres. This is mandatory.

There is no need the register your boat with any official organisation.

for boats for witch you need a captainslicense, 20 meter or longer and/or 25 km/h or faster with an engine. you need an official registration!

s'hartelijke bedankt for your answers.
once more to belgium:
By the letters of law I need a registration. And in the real life? Is there anybody controlling it? On the Semois and The Ourthe under LaRoche the Registration is neccesary, but nobody cares (in my experience).
What's about the Maas in Liège and other big Rivers?
Every Registration would be a lot of work- the kayaks don't own the papers the offically ask for (CE certificate etc). And some money, I would need it for three boats...
Heelemal bedankt!
